MLK's letter as a blog entry

I feel that MLK's letter could work as a blog entry, because majority of his thoughts and issues that he fought for are still relevant today.

APA or MLA?

In high school, it was always MLA format that my English teachers were most familiar with, and I guess they passed the tradition. I think MLA is a bit simpler, more like common sense. It's one of those styles that one doesn't have to really think about in order to do it. APA is a style that I am neiter familiar nor comfortable with; in fact, I never had to use such a thing until I started taking these courses online. To me, it's more complicated than it has to be--what with headings and subheadings and such time-consuming nonsense.

Documentation never interested me, but of course it must be done to protect the successes of authors and authoresses, as well as all other geniuses who've managed to have their pieces published.

Bibliographies have always been simple, but nonetheless bore me with all of its rules (i.e. alphabetical order, format, etc.). It's easy to lose interest.

Advanced Composition Indy 500

Week 1 flew by me like lightening!! I am well aware that it is Advanced Composition, but in the beginning I felt a little overwhelmed. We had daily assignments and this is the first course with NU that I had to do that. Most professors would have a 1 or 2 assignments due in a week. So, I can honestly say that I was at awww at all the things we had to do. But after I completed each assignment, I realized the importance each one was to my research project. So, I hope this week I have a better hold on things.

The class as a whole is very informative. I write on a daily at work and my new learned writing and critiquing skills will definitely be used.

...why Sociology?

Every since I can remember, I have always been interested in why things happen, why people tend to be a certain way, or why society thinks the way it does on the social level. I have always had the natural ability to help and guide people. I am outgoing, outspoken, and for the most part, positive. As a little girl on up to my teenage years, most of my friends spoke of their"dream jobs". But I didn't have one. I didn't know what kind of career I wanted, nor did I know exactly what I liked to do. So, I decided to take my natural talents and curiosities and find a career that I would enjoy and find rewarding. Naturally, SOCIOLOGY was the choice for me.

Rather than viewing the world one-sided through one lens, sociologists view the world through many lenses or point of views. When viewing the world, sociologists combine economics, political, science and history. For example, imagine your high school lunch room. It's not just one big group of students hanging together, is it? There are probably more than a few cliques. Have you ever wondered how these cliques were formed? Or why people act one way at home and a completely different way at another place? Sociologists tend to focus on these types of issues.
Another reason I chose the sociology field is because I can pursue a professional degree in law, business, education, health and medicine, social work, counseling or even many fields associated with Criminal Justice. The broadness of the field excites me and is important with the ever-changing economy.

With my Sociology degree, I plan to be in corrections, probation, or a parole officer. I am currently working a government position as a security officer, and I have been for two years. So, I am definitely planning to stay on the government/federal level. With this degree, I am well on my way to career advancement. I look forward to my new and exciting future.
